Coach training that develops you
Coach training is for people who want to work as a professional coach and should provide the skills and knowledge necessary to coach and inspire others. Many also attend a coaching course to develop in their professional role or in private life.
There are a number of different educations and courses to choose from with different levels and levels of difficulty. The courses must be approved by the industry association ICF (International Coach Federation) so that after completing the training you can apply to ICF for certification. There are three levels of certification, each of which sets specific requirements for what must be achieved.

Undergraduate education - certified conversation coach
The basic training is often three months and corresponds to the training requirement for certification at the first level ACC (Accredited Certified Coach).
The training for a certified conversation coach is aimed at those who want to use coaching to help people discover the path to a desired goal. It is a broad basic education that is suitable for everyone who works with people, change and development. Among the course participants we find, for example, managers, teachers, parents and coaches. The training gives you the necessary basics to work with coaching conversations with different orientations.
The content of the coaching education must be quality-examined on the basis of the 11 core competencies and ethical guidelines identified by ICF. The training gives you all the mentor coaching and the 60 training hours required to achieve the ACC certification degree according to ICF.
After completing the training and passing the final exam, documented own experience of coaching in the form of 100 practice hours before you can apply for certification at ICF. After the training, you are allowed to work professionally as a coach both in Sweden and internationally, either in-house or as an employee.
Example course content - basic course:
- Teacher-led for about 65 hours.
- The education follows the 11 core competencies according to ICF's definition of coaching.
- 8 occasions with an individually experienced coach
- 8 hours of mentor coaching in a group after the training in order to deepen your coaching skills.
- Ethical discussions with a focus on the difficulties that you as a coach can end up in.
- Coaching and discussions based on the group's experiences.
- Access to course material
The training extends over about 4 months and is often located on 4 different occasions of 2 days. In addition to this, it is expected to spend approximately four hours per week in independent work between meetings.
A coaching education in 2019 can cost anywhere from SEK 15,000 to 45,000, depending on the course's length, structure and content. You will receive a diploma. There may be a cost for any certification paid directly to the International Coach Federation.
In-depth training corresponds to the requirements set for certification at the next level, PCC (Professional Certified Coach). These specialization courses are longer, about a year, and have different content and focus for those who want to broaden their skills.
Example content - advanced course:
- scheduled training time divided into about 25 training opportunities.
- You conduct 10 coach conversations with two practice clients
- You undergo 15 sessions of individual talk therapy yourself
- 5 sessions of individual coaching
Study group meetings are also arranged on about 15 occasions, with the group reasoning about the different course sections. The times for these meetings can be decided by the participants in the study group themselves. It can be expected that 150 to 200 hours for individual homework with various exercises and written assignments will be added.
There are educations based on the book "Be who you are ”, which addresses the subject of psychosynthesis. During the second year, the focus is on the application of the coaching conversation as a tool and an approach to your fellow human beings. You get additional lessons to be able to independently conduct coaching conversations with an individual or a group.
If you want to learn more about leadership and development of groups and teams, there is a course based on methodology in accordance with Susann Wheelan's successful and well-known research on leadership. The education emphasizes effective communication, conflict management and feedback. The goal is to give you as a leader a thorough self-insight and a completely new understanding of your role.
In order to be optimal, the teaching takes place in small groups where the participants' wishes about the design are taken into account. You will receive very good advice and information that you can use in order to inspire and strengthen your employees. The course gives you heightened insights about the group's own strength and power and the value of being a good role model for its group. You will also realize how important leadership is to achieve set goals.
